WildStar begins 10-day free trial program

It’s been quiet on the WildStar front lately, but that might change now that the team has started its 10-day trial program.

The great news here is that not only can new players check out Nexus for a week-and-a-half, but the trial extends to former subscribers as well. The free trial FAQ says that current subscribers can’t use it to add more game time to their accounts, however.

The trial does come with some significant restrictions; players are capped at level 20, aren’t allowed to join guilds, can’t purchase CREDD, and are limited to only three characters per account.

****BAM!*** HOLY CRAP! I STILL DON’T CARE!! ***BAM*** (confetti, streamers)

(ok I’m just mocking their level-up histrionics, I can’t text-edit the above into flashing 72-point multcolored clown font – I really think that would have helped pull it off)

ArbsX Oskiee Unfortunately a real death sentence for an MMO is the lack of profits.  F2P may be undesirable, but if it can save the game they may not have much of a choice.  I tolerate f2p/p2w systems by not caring what other people do and completely avoiding pvp which is the only aspect of any game where p2w would be a concern.

Ekphrasis NCSoft’s still dragging NA/EU Aion and Lineage 2 around, I can’t see why they wouldn’t keep an NA/EU Wildstar open even if its gangbusters overseas.

As far as F2P/B2P, I know there’s certain regulations that the Chinese government has in place that require at the least a pseudo-sub. i.e. GW2 China’s ‘VIP’ program. Its possible that having seen what Anet went through to set up two different systems, they’re saying ‘fark it’ and sticking to the same system between Wildstar NA and Wildstar China.

(Its also possible that they’ve done the homework which shows the return on investment from B2P/F2Ping Wildstar isn’t worth it.)
