Two days ago, Reddit launched its April Fools’ Day prank. It’s a button. A single button with a countdown timer next to it that’s running for 60 seconds. Anyone can press the button to reset the countdown timer, but you can press it only once. That’s it. No one knows what it does, what will happen when it hits zero, nothing.
It’s also turned into an impromptu culture, with a huge number of threads about pressing or not pressing the buttons and more than half a million registered participants on the site. The whole thing is comparable in some ways to last year’s “Twitch Plays Pokémon” group effort, except that this time around there isn’t even a game at the heart of it. Just… a button. A single, mysterious button.
Maybe you should press the button.
