Werewolf Finds Dragon
You might be interested in Campster’s reviews of SRIV vs GTAV, I’ve struggled at times to get exactly why I like Saints Row so much into words, but I think he really nails the heart of it:

I wouldn’t want to put anybody down for liking GTA more (except perhaps those who would reflexively defend much of the series treatment of women… :/ ) but I think it ultimately comes down to SR being more willing to wear its’ heart on its’ sleeve and admit to liking things things. As compared to GTA’s cloak of snark, cynicism, and knob jokes.
That said, as wonderful as Volition may be, they just don’t have the funding to build something with the scale and level of detail of GTAV’s Los Santos.
You still have to put up with a fair amount of crud (there’s a lot of vagina and weiner jokes baked into the world, and the npcs are veritable cuss buckets mixed with the occasional “you look like a tranny!”), but GTA Online at least lets you take in some of the cooler parts of the game’s world while avoiding many of the worst excesses of GTAV’s story line.

I never got the appeal of Grand Theft Auto. I’m more of a fan of Saints Row, myself. GTA is about being a psychopath in a real world setting, with one-sided objectification and very unintelligent humour. Saints Row had some of the best humour I’ve been fortunate enough to encounter in a sandbox game, and equality, too. You could be as objectified or the opposite thereof as you wanted.
I’m speaking out IV more than any other, I suppose. The super powers were incredible, and the whole game was gloriously ridiculous. And in co-op? Beautiful. The funny thing is is that it was less gorey and violent than GTA, too, despite being so over-the-top. So, if I wanted to, I could hit the streets as a werewolf with a dubstep gun, and that’s a weapon which is almost the opposite of violence. It’s just music, colourful lights, and then people fall over.
Not to mention how you could upgrade vehicles, and the vehicle diversity, such as having a rocket powered bike, or a flying bike. I loved the flying bikes.
I could never get into GTA, it was just too close to the real world for me, and too actually violent versus the silly slapstick of Saints Row IV. Also, ‘bunch of friggernaffin’ nerds’ describes Volition entirely, the amount of nerd/geek humour in there is brilliant. And it is perhaps the only game where I’ve been able to have a male character do pole dancing in the most ridiculous clothes.
I guess that’s what I like, you know? I’m not a fan of violence which is close to reality for that very reason. However, violence in a simulation where no one actually dies? And it’s not particularly bloody but it has all of the colourful explosions and unbelievable super powers? Okay! I still actually go back into Saints Row IV every now and then to have a bit of a romp around, just flying from here to there as a werewolf in a business suit, or cruising down the highway in my giant mecha, or getting involved in the best minigame ever (the one where you can just ragdoll all over the place).
I guess I’m still a kid at heart. I didn’t grow up beyond that. Better than the obnoxious, angsty, puberty-laden inner teenager most people seem to get stuck with, though!

pid But you can only go full throttle or full stop (or backwards :D) (as in every other racing game with mkb controls), so it does change gameplay (or at least the fun). Since the well hated rc copter mission in GTA VC I never played GTA with mkb anymore.

krieglich Actually it is very fun with mouse and keyboard. It’s not like the gameplay changes or anything…

Aranwe  Why do you say “no one really cares about GTV5” when it’s sold like bibles at a Republican National Convention?
