Age of Wulin is getting a new expansion on June 16th. It’s called Chapter 6: Blood & Flowers, and it includes Lingxiao City, a new battleground, the partner system, and a new instance called the Island of Delight.

Lingxiao City is a siege mechanic that sees players join random factions to defend (or attack) the city, while the partner system allows players to befriend other characters and summon allies during battle. Further details are available at the Age of Wulin website.

TitianHero Koshelkin MorpayneRADIO Did you ever take a look into Age of Wushu’s or Black Gold’s cash shop? Into the sales and events?

I have to say I think that *Snail* is a pretty abyssmal publisher imo. Their American games are so far total trainwrecks and that’s because they try to use the chinese model, with higher prices on top, in the western market.

Please point me to some F2P mmo’s in the western hemisphere that are monetized like Age of Wushu. Oh and point me, ideally, to some which are actually successful.

dirtyklingon Snail mainly sells optional skill sets which can be bought in game with in game money, and the game-version of costumes called ‘lores’. The most attractive ones are 300 dollars, the median tier ones are 60, and the cheapest costumes are 3 dollars. The whole pay2win thing comes directly from the in game community itself selling  rare in game items at insanely high prices because they know that a large portion of the community happily spends their money with very little regard for its value. This would end up happening regardless if snail directly sold in game money or not due to the nature of the items and the way mmo players act.
Just 9 dollars a month gets you your basic subscription and thats all you need to enjoy yourself.

Koshelkin MorpayneRADIO you care to back that up with some reasoning or do you just hate chinese mmo companies?

I play wushu. I live in norcal. The lag is caused directly by the last hops you have to go through in la to reach the server which arent controlled by snail. For some reason they throttle the vast majority of incoming connections  which results in significant packet loss. A vpn is the best way to get around this.

dirtyklingon The verticality is, imo, the biggest problem of the game and that’s why I always hesitate to recommend it to people. They make it periodically easier for new people to catch up, so they don’t have to go through the year-long progression curve of veteran characters but even with that it consumes alot of time, alone in cultivation and gearing.

MorpayneRADIO It seems to me that Snail doesn’t really understand the Western Market.

Damonvile Flamethekid MorpayneRADIO It’s a common complaint, though, most former Wushu players I spoke with on the european server told me their Ping is only slightly worse, in some cases even better, than in the american version.

dirtyklingon Armsbend Flamethekid There’s actually a version of it called Age of Kung Fu. I think both the russian and the SEA version sport that name.
