The Daily Grind: What’s your first priority in a new MMO expansion?

The start of Heavensward access in Final Fantasy XIV has me running around like it’s the end times. I need to level the new jobs, I need to advance in the storyline, I need to get to work crafting and gathering… basically, I need to be doing anything and everything other than what I’m actually doing. The joys of trying to write about a new expansion!

Of course, I’m going to bet that the vast majority of you reading don’t have quite that particular collection of stresses; you can just enjoy what you’re doing. So when you get your hands on a new expansion (or major patch/DLC, if you prefer for your game of choice), what’s your first priority? What do you want to do right away, above and beyond everything else?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

New cool abilties for my class that expand its depth and make playing it more enjoyable. Also I love to explore new zones with great design and atmosphere

My biggest problem is to decide which of my classes to play first and make my “main”. After the hard process on deciding the class, my priority is to stay on par with my teammates/guildmates. If I have more time than them at the time of expansion I will slow down and play alts on the same time..if I have less time, I will rush my main as fast as possible when able to play to catch up with them :).
So generally, my priority is to be able to play with my friends as soon as possible.

Level to cap then start gearing up for Alexander Savage.
A member of my static stayed up for approximately 35 hours straight after the 5 a.m. launch and was among the first 60’s on my server. I’d have loved to do that, but I just don’t have that kind of stamina anymore (he’s 21, I’m 31 lol).
Still, I hit 58 last night and intend to knock out 59-60 tonight after work.
The story is absolutely fantastic, and despite my desire to level as quickly as possible I’ve read every quest and watched every cut scene.

The first thing I do during a new expansion is trying to remember how to play. My subscriptions usually lapse for several months while waiting for new content. During that time, I would have been playing something else, so I need to dust off my old skills while trying to break the habits from the last game.

First time I log in a new expansion, I check the new locations: landscapes, important landmarks, lore locations, etc. Then I start with the main storyline and move on.
I leave the grinding stuff: item collecting, virtues, traits, for later, once the main storyline is done.

Race to max level, ignoring all other content.
