Wargaming invests in Twitch competitor

Don’t be surprised if Twitch gives World of Tanks a cold shoulder from now on.

Apparently Wargaming has invested $4 million in Hitbox, a livestreaming service that’s one of Twitch’s up-and-coming competitors. Wargaming was one of several investors that answered the call to help fund the service, and as a result the game company will sit on Hitbox’s board.

Wargaming Chief Strategy Officer Sean Lee explained the reason behind the investment: “Supporting live streaming for our games and fans has always been a key pillar in our strategy for growing our online presence. Hitbox allows us to truly make live streaming an extension of Wargaming and our titles through the ability to integrate game data into the broadcast. Gamers will be able to share their experiences easier than ever before and our channels will have the robust infrastructure AAA gaming demands.”

CloakingDonkey Sorenthaz I played it seriously for a year – but even I can’t watch it.  It just doesn’t, and won’t, translate well to streaming.

Bob Ross?  Defo does.

Sorenthaz Their games aren’t doing particularly well on twitch. They’re rarely in the top 10 with WoT now and WoWS can be lucky if it makes it into the top 20. It’s just too slow and tactical for your average kappa spamming, glue sniffing twitchie :P

BalsBigBrother probably because some goober-smoocher tried to set up a streaming toon porn channel from SL lol.   “spoiled a good time for everybody!”

Competition is always good I suppose. Good luck to them.

So Wargaming was sad that World of [Military Weapons] is almost un-watchable as a stream so they…bought a company?  Odd move.

So is the next story all the “world of” games to be added to the twitch games not allowed to stream.  Well I guess Second Life could use some company.

That’s… kind of odd given that Wargaming has hosted all of their esports-ish events on Twitch.  And honestly investing in other streaming services seems like a horrid idea because Twitch has such a huge monopoly over the Western audience at least (in Asia its’ more like Azubu).
