Firefly Online aims to misbehave in beta soon

Firefly Online’s certainly been running quiet over the past year or so, in part due to the rework required from landing the show’s actors as voice talent. Happily, hope of seeing the game ever fly on mobile devices might be gaining traction, as the studio indicated that the beta testing is finally forthcoming.

In a Facebook update thread on a new Steam build this past week, the team addressed questions about the changes to in-app purchases, saying, “IAP is gone now in advance of beta.”

No further explanation was issued, but it looks like this is confirmation that the beta is coming sooner rather than much later. Are you ready, captains?

Oh, as I understand it, the game is also set to appear on Steam — so it’s not exclusive to mobile devices, for whatever that’s worth.

For me, I think if the game is actually fun, it will find its niche. If not, it will die a digital death and be buried in an unmarked game grave.
Basically, I hope for the best, but try not to have too many expectations. Seems safer that way.

Hey, that’s me! I’m a tipster! Now, my street cred in the gaming underworld is ruined, and I’ll be found stabbed to death in an alley.

Thanks, Detective Olivetti, I thought you said you guys at the precint would protect me! :-)

RicharddeLeonIII SimyJo  Unfortunately it is a big if.  We’ll see what it is really like but when the developers are only copy and pasting out of wikipedia to tell you what Firefly is on their website…well… not holding out much hope for their story telling.

And I personally am so over the whole ‘celebrity voiceover’ thing, it just seems like money out the door that could be used for development.

Maybe low expectations is the way to go these days lol

SimyJo IF the story content is good, I think an isometric game will work.  Just look at pillars of eternity divinity original sin.

breetoplay FacelessSavior  “Firefly Online” and “Civilization Online” are my emotional roller-coasters where I click on the article thinking pleasant thoughts before remembering reality.

To be honest there are so many Firefly fans in guilds (the ‘Browncoats’ for one) in Star Citizen that will be roleplaying their ‘Verse’ there – I don’t see this top-down isometric game having that much scope or lasting interest – as much of a fan I am of Firefly/Serenity and the actors/actresses involved.
