Are you confused over why a small PvP MMO like Darkfall would ever warrant a reboot, nevermind two? Or why these competing reboots wouldn’t just merge forces or have one of them back down? The folks behind Darkfall: New Dawn penned a dev diary to explain the pressing question of why they’re going to all of this trouble to take the game back to its roots.
While the New Dawn team doesn’t address its competition, it does go into depth about its vision for the reboot’s existence: “In short, we recognize that Darkfall, as it was, is critically flawed, but we are confident we can solve these issues […] To us, it means that Darkfall can finally reach its full potential. Darkfall is a game that has a real soul and deep emotional appeal and it can now get a make over to also have superficial appeal and get new players to love it. It means that this is a chance for Darkfall to be more than what it was and cement a lasting place in the MMO landscape.”
The team reiterated the feature points that will set New Dawn apart from Unholy Wars, such as having less grind, an alignment system to combat the gankbox environment, a fleshed-out economy, and territory control.
