Star Trek Online’s tale of two Leetas

If Star Trek has taught us anything, it’s that midriffs and goatees signify that you’re from an evil parallel universe — and that more of Chase Masterson is never a bad thing.

The popular Deep Space Nine actress is returning to reprise her role as Leeta in Star Trek Online. She’s also returning to reprise her role as Admiral Leeta of the Terran Empire, because if you’re going to get one of the Trek actors to come back, you might as well get a two-for-one deal on delivery. In a new dev diary, Cryptic talks about the rigorous scientific process that it used to craft models of Masterson for the game.

“The updated version of Chase Masterson as Leeta began with reference gathering using a special tool known as ‘Google,'” the studio said. “Starting with images of her Deep Space Nine outfits, we pared down the most useful images into a basic digital reference board.”

Those of you aspiring to be game developers, take note: part of the job description apparently includes surfing the web for pictures of gorgeous people. There’s a whole college course devoted to it, or so we’ve heard.
