The Daily Grind: What MMO events have you stayed up for?

Day one.

When the first two World of Warcraft expansions launched, my wife and I were there for the midnight launches. We set up our schedule well in advance to get the expansions loaded and ready to play so that we could enjoy a whole day of playing the expansions as soon as they were out. I haven’t done that in quite some time, nor do I make the effort to be up as soon as a new patch drops for Final Fantasy XIV or another expansion goes live… but I did stay up for the end of the world when it signaled the end of version 1.0.

Sure, at this point I’m comfortable waiting a few hours and getting what passes for a decent night’s sleep for me, but I’m not sorry for the sleep I lost taking part in some unusual server-wide events. And that’s not counting the various big roleplaying events I’ve stayed up for until all hours of the night. So what about you, dear readers? What MMO events have you stayed up for, real-world or otherwise? If you have never shed sleep for an MMO event, what would convince you to do so?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
