SWTOR swings the nerfhammer at Troopers and Bounty Hunters

There is a grave disturbance in the Force, as if… a Star Wars: The Old Republic spec is overpowered and in dire need of a nerf. Only BioWare was prophecied to bring the balance to the classes.

The studio announced on the forums that it has reduced the damage to two mirrored classes, bringing the Assault Trooper and Ordnance Expert DPS down by nerfing both burst damage and periodic damage.

“The cumulative effect of these changes is that both the burst damage potential and sustained damage potential for Innovative Ordnance Mercenaries / Assault Specialist Commandos have been reduced by a fair amount to bring them down to their target DPS,” the dev team said.

The nerfs to BH/Troopers are nothing compared to the nerfs to healing Sorcs/Sages

The biggest issue I’d see with this is that Bioware tends to do the initial nerf with C4 and then spends the next two months applying Bondo to fix it.

One problem with nerfs like this is – if the DPS of a perfectly executed and optimal rotation is lowered to a target DPS.
Where does that leave the non-macro, non-optimal players? I’m guessing with a very much sub-par DPS.

They have to give players something to grind towards and now they can grind back up to where they were before the nerf….again!

Once again the whiney PVPers cause sweeping changes for everyone..thanks :( How many pvpers play this game as opposed to PVE’ers? Oh right the Devs are all PVPers…nevermind….

Correct one thing I saw during my time in the industry was no matter how niche or unfavorable something was, if a developer wanted it, that took priority over everything.

You have no clue. The nerf was entirely PvE based

LOL try reading the official swtor forums once in a while. Those changes SO did not come from complaints pertaining to PVE or PVE’ers. Nice try though ;)

I don’t know, I think “bludgeoned by the BanBat” has a nice ring to it.

When does the balancing, rebalancing, tuning, retuning, defining, redefining bullshit stop and developers get back to making the content fit the mechanic instead of the mechanic being altered to fit the content?

IMO one of the largest problems faced by the Genre is a serious lack of individuality and this constant streamlining of the product is a big part of that problem.

Why do so many games feel like WoW? Many games start out with a character of their own but within months the masses have beaten and banged the product back into the same old hackneyed set of mirrored classes.

Where are the heroes? Games often start with strong character classes but sooner or later everything that made them great will be removed until what’s left is incredibly average and sadly unheroic

The answer is simple. Adjust the content, rework the mechanic, buff instead of nerf and be ready at some point to allow your players to be masters of their class.

The balancing, rebalancing, tuning, retuning, defining, redefining of a MMORPG never stops. It’s always influx, ever changing, and paradigm shifting from Alpha Testing to permanent service shutdown.

And whats the reason behind game companies always swinging that nerf bat.. Its because of the PVP community always crying when they get beat in a fight. It sure as hell aren’t the npc’s complaining about that mages fireball being to op. Blame the players for this.

It’s not always about the PvP community. I’ve seen plenty of PvE games swing the nerfbat because players of one class perceive that another class is more powerful and outperforms them.

Where is that simple?
