Overwatch adds positive player endorsements and the looking for group tool

Overwhatever.

Who’s a good-tempered Overwatch player? You! Yes, you are! And you know this because you just got an endorsement from some other player in the game.

Wait, what are endorsements? These come from a new system that Blizzard introduced with yesterday’s patch to encourage gamers to play nice with each other. Now players can wing endorsements at each other as “a way to acknowledge a positive impact on your gaming experience.” The endorsement rating is available to view on any player’s career screen or the group menu, offering a quick way to tell who’s on the up-and-up.

Another much-anticipated feature that came with the patch is the new looking for group tool: “Looking for group allows you to find like-minded players before you queue to make sure you have the kind of Overwatch experience you want! Things like specifying what game mode want to play, preferring voice chat, and knowing that a player wants to play a certain role before you go into battle together goes a long way toward solid hero compositions and team work.”

Can’t you already endorse players in-game already after a match? Or am I thinking of a similar feature?

It’s kinda crazy how positive of an impact this endorsement system had on players’ behaviours. My games today were absolutely toxicity-free, and everyone was being extra helpful. Whether they are faking it for the points or not is irrelevant, as all that matters is the overall atmosphere in the team chat.

Also, symmetra appears to be ridiculously fun with the rework.

These are all good additions, unfortunately Blizzard still doesn’t want to add more “casual fun” to this game, with larger team sizes… I have absolutely 0 interest in “ranks”, all I want is just a half-mindless, relaxed gameplay with A LOT of people per map (which naturally prevents most of in-game toxicity since there’s much lower impact of any single player on team’s performance) and the only FPS games where I can still get this are the “good old” TF2 with its few remaining 32-player servers or BF series… Oh well.

Good, keep learning from other online games and integrating tools that have been successful in terms of combating shit behavior and promoting good behavior.

I should hop in this week to see how it is with the LFG system and whatnot. Each time I play I always end up frustrated and mad at my team for a variety of reasons, so hopefully things will be better. If not, I’ve still got Killing Floor 2 as a backup that I need to jump into now that I learned you can prestige classes. ALL HEALBOTING WHILE MURDERLIZING ZEDS

I didn’t try the looking for group thing but I like what I saw with the endorsements and as I said below I hope it continues to be a positive for the players and game.

Can I just say that the Symmetra rework that also came with this is awesome and its nice that i can use her a bit more when my team is on the attack and its going to take some adjustments from other players to deal with her.

I have to disagree. I loved Symmetra the way she was and this change kinda ruined her for me. I don’t like the left click changes, I preferred her old E as it was her only form of damage evasion, the new teleport is just clunky and poorly thought out, and I despise her new ultimate. On top of that, not having that extra HP from her shield gen really hurts her performance.

I found quickly killing folks who expected an easy kill was the best defence. Pop a turret behind them and rapid fire the orbs at them while moving all the time. Not sure if that was just shock from people not expecting the changes but it worked last night, time will tell on that one.

I used the teleport to put myself in some interesting places for symm that you normally only see a widowmaker or reaper and again it made for some interesting game play choices for me.

I am not too sold on the ult and and would have preferred the old shield one but taken as a whole it made for a nice change of pace for me personally.

Its a great approach, this having rewards for sportsmanlike behavior will be huge

Sounds very similar to League’s Honor system. While it has a positive effect and is definitely a step towards the right direction, in League it did not have a “huge” effect and I would not expect it to do wonders here either.

I think it works more towards rewarding and encouraging the already decent (in terms of personality and behaviour) players to continue being patient and not become bitter than it prevents toxic players from behaving like they do. Still, this alone is worth having such a system implemented.

Depends on how it is. HotS 2.0 boosted Hots a lot because people like being rewarded. LoL was always a disgrace with rewarding players ( they are extremely cheap with skins, and even with the new lootbox system, it’s still a pain to get those ).

If OW follows HotS in rewarding players with skins out of the wazoo, they maybe have something good.

Every game I played yesterday was full of positivity. I’m sure this is at least in part because of the newness of the system, but if it makes the game a much more pleasant place, I may stop turning chat off.

I think it will. They did say people with high endorsements will get periodic rewards so hopefully, they will be worth it. I might have to jump back to see for myself.

it was nice to see and I hope it continues but I fear that once the shiny has worn off it will sadly be business as usual.
