This week’s Conan Exiles community newsletter is all about the upcoming new combat animations that will be rolling out with the Pets Update. Well, mostly anyway. There are a few other details, too, particularly regarding the aforementioned Pets Update: “We’re still working on finishing up the Pets Update,” the newsletter says, adding “specifically we’re working on fixing bugs, tweaking mechanics, and sorting out the last couple of things we need to take care of before we feel comfortable with rolling it out to live.”
It also mentions that the Funcom team is going to be “separating the Testlive branch into its own client on Steam,” which means that “everyone who owns Conan Exiles will be able to download Testlive builds separate from the main game” without having to switch between the live and Testlive branches on Steam. And just to tease players, the newsletter nonchalantly mentions that “there’s a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes that we, unfortunately, can’t tell you about just yet.”
The bulk of the newsletter, however, is dedicated to the new weapon combat animations that will be coming with the Pets Update. The studio already gave players an early look at some of the new animations, which will begin incorporating offhand weapons like throwing axes and shields into attack combos, in a previous newsletter, but this week, players get a behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating these slick new animations. If you’re interested to learn more about how an animation goes from its initial mocap session to the final in-game product, this week’s newsletter is definitely worth a read.
