Rust’s latest update adds hot air balloons, surface-to-air missiles

Have you ever been running through the wilderness, trying desperately to fend for your life, and thought to yourself that it sure would be lovely to take a leisurely trip in a hot air balloon to take a break from it all? If so, the latest update to Facepunch Studios’s crafting-survival game Rust has you covered, as players can now find hot air balloons scattered throughout the map. After filling them up with low grade fuel, players can take to the sky to get a bird’s-eye view of the land.

But don’t get too cozy up there. The update also introduces SAM sites — that’s surface-to-air missiles, if you didn’t know — that players can build for 500 scrap. These deployables will fire indiscriminately on any airborne vehicles within range, making them perfect for protecting your territory from any dastardly balloon raiders looking to circumvent your ground defenses.

In addition to the hot air balloons and SAM sites, this update also adds multiple looting rounds to the loot-filled cargo ships that circle the island. It also includes a few tweaks and nerfs, most notably to the Tactical Glove, which has had its aim-sway reduction reduced from 100% to 80%. For the complete details on all the features added in the latest update, you can check out the full post on the game’s official site.
