Assassins killed Fortnite’s puppy so it created a John Wick-themed event

Anything goes with the Fortnite narrative at this point, so why shouldn’t John Wick show up? His house has been on the island for about a week now, after all. And we all know that games-as-a-service means that the players are the products now, so why not have a little fun with the obvious advertising for the Lionsgate movie John Wick 3 opening this weekend?

Today, Lionsgate Entertainment and Epic Games introduced us to Wick’s Bounty, a limited-time event where the object of the match is to earn the most gold coins. Players earn coins by eliminating other players, duh. Every elimination will win you one gold coin plus the however many bounty points the target had with the top-three leaders appearing on the HUD. You have three lives to start and the first person to 1,000 coins wins the match. Of course, players have challenges that can also earn them rewards like the Gold Coin Back Bling, the One Shot Glider, and the Boogeyman Wrap.

No new mode in Fortnite would be complete without additions to the cash shop. Look for the John Wick Set, which includes a John Wick outfit (an official one this time) and a Simple Sledge Pickaxe.

Actually Larry I think they stole his car. Sure Daisy died in chapter one but there has been drama about his car in both previous chapters.

Can you get this cool skin in the save the world mode?

If not? Whyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Well it is a PvP event.

Because Save the World is kind of an afterthought at this point. Or it’s basically an obligation they have to the folks who gave them money so the game could stay up long enough to do Fortnite BR.

Can you select your skin in Save the World now? I haven’t played it in a while, but last I played the skin was tied to the specific character you were playing and you couldn’t select it.

Most of the real world tie ins happen in the PvP side of the game. Save the World has its own story line. Though they could work it in somehow still, saying they found an old movie or something and then working an event around it. Yeah it would definitely get me to play Save the World again. I wish they did more with it. The main game that became second banana.

Advertising a hard R rated movie franchise in a game largely targeting young players seems strange. Fortnite is a game about shooting people in the face, but squeezes by with a T rating since they keep it cartoony.

Reminds me of how they used to make cartoons and release childrens toys for movies like Terminator, Rambo, and RoboCop.

Not so strange. After all they have put all the R-rated movie monsters aka Jason Freddy Chucky Preditor Alien and more have all been ported to games for teen’s.

Eh they had a John Wick skin already in the game as Season 2’s final Battle Pass reward. Also Epic throws money at any promotions they can get and John Wick has been advertised by Payday 2 in the past (where you can get a DLC with him as a playable character).

I mean, it’s not as if younger players don’t know about John Wick haha.

Of course. It seems like something that could potentially upset some parents or perhaps family-friendly advertising partners. John Wick is a really enjoyable glorification of extreme violence. It is just a movie and all that, but I think it would less than ideal to see a kid watching one of those movies on their phone in class.

Not making a big deal about it. Just thinking out loud. Personally, the John Wick movies so far have been overhyped after I experienced The Raid 2.

I think the statement that this game is “largely targeting young player” is a prejudice of its art style. I think this game is supposed to be enjoyed by a wide age group. What I find strange is to pander unreasonable complaints of what should and should not be in a game.

Nobody here made unreasonable complaints or wants to bully these corporations over their advertising. The art style is clearly meant to be broadly appealing to as many demographics as possible. The violence is toned down about as far as it can be for a game about shooting people. That makes it appealing to younger audiences (and other folks as well). My prejudice against Forrnites art comes from me just not liking the style. I have always thought World of Warcraft was one of the best looking MMOs even though it also is “cartoony”.

I merely stated that I think it is weird. That is not a cry for censorship.

we all know that games-as-a-service means that the players are the products now

there is some meta-level Matrix/John Wick “we’re all inside the game inside the game inside the game” shit happening right now and I can’t even

Now that dancing-on-the-edges-of-licensing John Wick skin gets outdated and they get an actual one much more in Keanu’s likeness.
