Shroud of the Avatar’s Release 66 makes adjustments to the new player experience

While you often don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, those who were perhaps put off by the opening beats of Shroud of the Avatar might want to consider a return to the title with its latest release, which has made some changes to the first several things players do.

For starters, the game starts in the Battle of Solace Bridge instead of the Isle of Storms, which was deemed by the devs to be “not representative of the best parts of the game as a whole.” The opening beats also lead players towards the Path of Love quests instead of offering the choice of following Truth, Love, or Courage; this is due to the fact that these quests are the most polished of the three. Speaking of polish, the Path of Love starting area has seen a quality pass.

There is, as usual, more to this update to SOTA than that, including the return of the Luminous Atavist, new Warding and Taming skills, adjustments to Artifact Combining, and more. All of the complete details are in the patch notes.

And yet, the much needed polish to the Quest/UI is supposedly an Episode 2 thing, which is being pushed out to the horizon, costing new players in the meantime.

Portalarium’s Response “New players are leaving the game at the intro video and the Isle of Storms, so we took all of those out and forced them into he only working quest line.”

Current players are leaving since there is no promise that Episode 2 or a new quest system will EVER happen.

Well considering the Associate Producer, Chaox doesn’t work there anymore shows why there is so many issues still in the game.

Until Portalarium does something about their terribly limited Avatar customization, there is NOTHING that will bring me back. The PCs are nicer looking than some games but come on. Its 2019 …. I can live with the myriad of things wrong in this title except this.

Wants:
– 3-5 times more hair and facial hair options
– More than 5 preset hair colors
– More flesh colors
– Better faces; make a few presets and THEN we can modify them… everyone looks the same (very little you change makes a noticeable difference besides eye size, etc)
– Scalable body size. …maybe I wanna be fat/thin/muscular/weak

Port: STOP making unnecessary monthly telethon items and hire an artist to improve your Avatars.

How many times since release are they going to redo the starting scenes? The reason for cutting out the intro movie is the same as saying the intro video to WoW doesn’t represent the game. Everyone knows it’s just the intro video and most don’t depict actual game play.

Removing the Isle of Storms will not help retain players. The same graphics, dialog boxes, misspelled words, journal issues, etc still show it’s self during the Path of Love quest. Wasn’t the basis of the game which is written on their website and physical boxes is that you are affected by the choices you make? Now they take away your choices and make you follow a predetermined quest path.

All of the things that they do to retain players won’t help. You still have to pay $$$ big money for decent size houses & lots in game. You now get less items for your subscription amount and all of the quest, journal, map, and combat issues still exists.

They constantly said they were on track to have Episode 2 done prior to the end of 2019 but that seems very very unlikely since month after month things are getting delayed.

So these changes won’t stop new players from leaving the game nor will it keep them in, but in the mean time players are seeing a pattern that new systems, quests, and lands aren’t coming anytime in the near future and are leaving. They are leaving so much that Portalarium is now sending them blast emails begging for them to come back and see what has changed no matter how bad they misspelled it.

Lets see, on ESO I have payed over 80 euros for 1 house of good size. And yes I love my house there and it was worth it.

Lets see SotA. I got 3(instead 1) houses. I got a village lot viking pavillion, a village home knights keep with corner turret and a stone tow lot house. I got 1 village deed from finishing the entire storyline and paid 1900 COTOs for the house design(the keep), wont the second village lot from a raffle along with the viking crafting pavillion(Atos streams), and finally got the row lot from finishing outskirts and paid 10k ingame gold for the stone design. Then I paid 160 COTOs for landmarks paintings, 500 for a piano and 1200 for a fence – rest are crafted/found/gained through quests. Lets do a sum, 1900+160 +500+1200=3760 COTOs which is about 38 euros worth and its for THREE houses. Its easy to see who does play a game and who doesnt

You forgot that a house (pretty much 1000x larger then any Sota house) was given for free to everyone when Summerset came out. Yup very easy to see who plays a game and who doesn’t.

I’m just curious, where they are at with Ep 2? The current release notes have the 1st associated area from episode 2 crossed out. No progress or are they just not ready to say how far they are? That’s a little frustrating considering we were promised Ep 1-5 by now. I guess like many games on my list I’ll just cut my losses and walk away.

Delayed yet again. Darkstarr secretly took out the words “2019 will of course culminate with Episode 2 ” from his monthly release notes. I guess he sees that it’s not happening this year.

StormKat

You mean this one?
(2019 will of course culminate with Episode 2 which will have a new story, new lands, a revamp of the Quest and Journal system, a Theater System, Treasure Hunting with treasure maps that show up as loot, Item Affinity, Taming system expansions, Customizable NPCs, and expanded permissions for containers and doors!)
I know…I was just hopeful.

Yup, now Starr just says (Join us for Episode 2 which will have a new story, new lands, a revamp of the Quest and Journal system, a Theater System, Treasure Hunting with treasure maps that show up as loot, Item Affinity, Taming system expansions, Customizable NPCs, and expanded permissions for containers and doors!) He took all mention of 2019. Transparency at its best!

I don’t know. Maybe actually FINISH your game BEFORE you release it?

I hope the folks playing it are enjoying it. For me the design, monetization, performance, reworks and so forth are just not appealing.

Lots of delays, I see, including Episode 2. But then again, Portalarium originally promised that we’d have five episodes by now, so what’s a few more months/years?

Reader

I think you forgot the most important thing which is a whole addition of passive skills both for opposite element resistance and for tamers

Reader
Eric E

“passive skills both for opposite element resistance”

unfortunately is does nothing special. Just like Specializations. A tiny minor + for so much work. This was truly a waste of time and effort to implement. Since everyone is pretty much almost GM in every tree this will be useless and make people put points into it when it doesn’t change a thing.

It matters to those who play the game and come to MOP for gaming news.

It obviously doesnt matter to anyone who keeps MOP on newsfeed just to drop by and post trolling only on a couple select games and furthermore doesnt play the game

Reader
Reginald Bottomsworth

How do you decide who plays/played the game and who doesn’t?

Reader
Eric E

HAHA obviously he thinks he can. BTW, I do play the game. Hell they still owe me 2 or 3 monthly items. Funny how you ACCUSE people of things when you don’t have facts. Who is doing the trolling?

That’s usually Vlads shtick. It better fits their narrative if they can try and make people think that anyone with a negative opinion of the game doesn’t actually play it.

Reader

Perhaps he is Vlad. But it does sounds like his MO. Anyone who has issue with the game doesn’t play. In reality we do play and can tell you currently all the issues we have when playing.
