Kingdoms of Amalur is getting an updated re-release in August

My name is might have been.

So here’s your surprise thing to look forward to in a couple of months: Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. That’s a pretty awful title, but it does successfully convey the idea that the original Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is getting a graphical overhaul and remaster, along with some updated game systems to boot. This is all coming from a Windows Store listing, so the details aren’t yet known on what this means for platform availability.

Those of you who don’t know why we’re talking about this single-player game would do well to look through the entire sad, mismanaged history of 38 Studios and Curt “I Get More Disappointing With Each Passing Year” Schilling. We knew that THQ Nordic bought the IP rights to Kingdoms of Amalur back in 2018 with a note that it was primarily for the IP, so this would be the first time those IP rights have gotten used since the purchase. Does this mean that we’re going to get ourselves Project Copernicus after all? Who knows, but hey, game remaster.

While formatting my Xbox360 to give away I popped this game in and was a bit saddened that it hadn’t aged well graphically. Will see how it turns out but this has me pretty excited.

I’d be interested, as long as its not a windows store exclusive.

Hehe, that nickname you gave Schilling, spot on Eliot. Also I speculate that this is mostly about recouping the costs with buying the IP. I’m not sure that they put much into changing/improving the original KoA Reckoning before re-releasing it. Buyer beware or wait for reviews.

I really liked the game thought the art style was gorgeous and the story was sort of a build up to the MMO. So sad it crashed and burned.

Same here, it had excellent atmosphere, good voice acting, and fun gameplay, so I’m really looking forward to checking this out!

Nobody can complain about you covering this game, because after all it’s a MMORPG!

No it’s not, it’s a single player game; I don’t care really but still.

I just finished that game a month ago or so. Art was beautiful and voice acting was nice. Beginning of the game was challenging but later on we could stack % damage reduction which stacked until we had 100% damage reduction and were invincible. So that’s some bad design, these %s shouldn’t stack like that.

I hope they add some camera options, was quite painful playing the original with the camera stuck so close to your character’s back and no field of view at all.

OMG please don’t let this only be in the MS. And I hope the updated game systems are the bad out leveling a zone just from visiting another one, That was just stupid.

Huge game, I put a lot of hours into it and still had so many more areas yet to explore. Fun title I’ll probably pick it up.
