Fortnite is a dance floor, a murder simulator, a concert hall, a movie theater, and now, a home for serious discussion: Epic Games is using party royale to host a video panel on race all day today on the 4th of July, which marks Independence Day in the United States. Prominent Black activists and journalists will lead We The People, a “a series of conversations that advance the dialogue around race in America with prominent BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) voices in business, sports, media, music, and entertainment,” as presented to players in-game.
The first airing begins at 9:46 a.m. EDT today, then runs every hour throughout the day from 1 p.m. EDT onward. (That’s 8:46 a.m. CDT in homage to George Floyd.)
