Latch your rods and cones onto this one, boys and girls, because Phantasy Star Online 2 is showing how it’s going to get a whole lot more pretty come next year. At the Tokyo Game Show this week, SEGA demoed gameplay from the sweeping New Genesis update — and it’s all the eye candy you could ask for.
New Genesis is not just going to be a visual overhaul, either. SEGA is turning PSO2 into more of an MMO with “open field” environments that aren’t as instanced as they currently are in the game while also adding a day/night cycle, weather, and more movement options.
The revamp is scheduled for 2021 and will run parallel to the current iteration of Phantasy Star Online 2. Players will be able to move their characters between the two versions of the game when it releases.
