Last year was the year when rogue servers became an even bigger deal for many veteran MMO players than usual, due in no small part to the out-in-the-open rogue servers for City of Heroes that started as a point of contention before becoming a weirdly heartwarming story for everyone. This year, meanwhile, we’ve all been stuck at home and with plenty of time to try out new servers for old favorites or just out of curiosity (if you don’t understand why, welcome to 2020, you missed a lot so far).

All of this raises the obvious question: Did you try out any MMO rogue servers this year?

The advantage to doing so is that it’s a chance to play a no-longer-available game, often with changes from the original that can result in a very different overall experience. The downside, of course, is that these servers may or may not be tacitly accepted by the people who own the rights and may be subject to shutdowns or at least internal drama. So did you try any, or did you stick with official servers this year?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
