The Daily Grind: What MMO gifts did you get (or give yourself) for Christmas?

11

Happy Llama is happy! Happy Llama is sleeping in after a fun-filled day of gift opening, eggnog drinking, and overdosing on the ol’ holly jolly. But when Happy Llama wakes up, Happy Llama is going to want to see some serious comments going on here. So let’s not turn Happy Llama into Highly Critical Llama, eh?

What could be better for today’s topic than to simply ask what you got — or gave yourself — in the realm of gaming this season? Did you snag a new game to play? Unwrap a gorgeous monitor? Splurge on that in-game mount you’ve always wanted? Get some fun freebies from an MMO holiday event?

Share! Boast! And keep Happy Llama happy for all that’s holy!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

I subbed to EQ2 and bought the latest expansion. Last time I tried it was 2012 right after City of Heroes shut down. I didn’t enjoy it then because it wasn’t City of Heroes.

I figured it was time to finally give it a whirl.

Nothing from an MMO this year.

I havent received anything but made a surprise to my closest and longest time online friend. We first met on a mmo petgame in 2007, and while last 5+ years she is out of mmos she is still into gaming so I got her a few steam games along with the DLCs but seriously, 13 years since when I met her is a lot time, time passes fast. I know she would want to gift something too, but no steady income at the moment with covid and all.

Bottom line, friendship, love, care and good memories are the biggest gifts anyone can receive and offer, arent they? We must be thankful of those

I gifted myself a 3 month Elder Scrolls Online sub so I can enjoy the Greymoor expansion I purchased months ago but never got round to actually playing.

While you don’t need the sub to play it’s nice to have.

Not MMOs but I gifted some of my friends Duck Game, Stick FIght, and Broforce since those are all great multiplayer games and on sale on Steam!

My good friend, a plumber, helped fix the hot water return line on my shower – wow what a great present! Water Pressure!

Got from others: Nothing.
Got for myself: Nothing.
2020: The year without an income.
I’ll be lucky if I’m still living in my apartment by February. Additional game stuff just isn’t in the budget.

I got a solid state drive earlier in the month, and a gaming chair coming from Staples sometime next week (surprisingly those chairs are actually comfortable, And have great posture).

Oh then the world decided to punish me for the audacity of treating my self by killing my water heater, and having my 6 month old kitten presumably eat the elastic string off a surgical mask he pulled out of my wife’s purse. He’s still acting normal he just makes wrenching sounds once an hour.

Thankfully my Father in Law is willing to help out, after my wife called him about the cat he was like WTF kind of Christmas are you all having sheet.

The new Water Heater comes with a caveat though, I get to learn how to install it; I figure it can’t be that hard it’s just a matter of connecting the pipes and the wiring harness I guess. Getting rid of the old one is going to be a messy fucking endeavor though.

Merry Christmas etc etc

Keep a careful eye on your kitten. Several years ago, one of ours ate a long strand of yarn from a blanket which ended up wrapped around one of his intestines, cutting it off. I first noticed something was wrong when he vomited liquid (not food), which smelled atypical. We called the vet, who told us to bring him in immediately. He went in for emergency surgery, and several hours (and $3000) later, well, he’s still with us. But it was close – if we’d waited a half day he wouldn’t have made it. The vet still has that strand of yarn siting in a container on her desk.

My Father in Law is a Doctor, he walked us through an assessment, we felt the cat’s abdomen and felt nothing distended, no firmness, and the kitten didn’t react like he was in pain. The kitten managed to keep down wetfood as well. The fluid that comes up is clear with some white in it, almost like what you’d cough up if you had a respiratory problem. I noticed he’s starting to sneeze before doing what we noticed before so I’m beginning to think that he has an Upper Respiratory Infection instead.

Either way if he stops eating he needs to go to the Vet, but where he is currently my FiL thinks he should be fine until Monday when I can make an appointment.

If it’s just an URI then all we need is antibiotics.
