Coming in at #1 on our list is…

Chinese fraudsters posed as a famous chili sauce brand to get free keys out of Tencent — and it worked

“What you’re about to read is an account of how three guys in China defrauded Tencent under the guise of a famous chili sauce brand.” Thus began Chris’ account of an esports ad deal between Tencent and chili brand Lao Gan Ma in relation to mobile racing game QQ Speed; Tencent put the label on the event and even branded chili sauce cans with the promotional logo. Only it wasn’t really LGM: It was a trio of fraudsters who’d posed as LGM reps to sign the deal, all part of a scam to score game keys from Tencent for resale.

Yep, that happened.
