The Daily Grind: What non-fantasy, non-licensed setting would you like to see for an MMO?

And why is it steampunk?

Remember when Elyon was Ascent: Infinite Realm and looked like a game somebody in the world might have wanted to play? Pepperidge Farms remembers. So do I. I was actually interested in the game at one point when it looked like a weird unique steampunk exploration, which is something that we’re sadly lacking in a lot of places. It’s really weird how the game opted to make itself less interesting over the course of development… but that’s actually not what I’m curious about this morning.

See, I think a lot of people would really like to have a steampunk-style MMO. I know that I personally would like a really advanced transhumanist MMO, too, or something set in a non-European fantasy setting. (Props to ArenaNet for exploring that!) I can imagine wanting a deep-sea exploration game, or a cosmic horror MMO, or even something more out there. So what non-fantasy, non-licensed setting would you like to see for an MMO?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
