It’s a hard night out there in a hard city, and I’m a hard man. A private eye. The name’s Boil. Lance Boil. Yes, that’s my real name. My parents were Sasha and Richard Boil. Dad grew up with a hard life. It’s not fun being called Rick Boil, or even worse names than that. But his dad, Fester Nicholas Boil, said it built character. Then he threw up. Not from drinking, grandpa was a teetotaler, but from a horrible stomach disease. It was tragic. The Boil family has long mourned for grandpa and his many dangerous forms of emetic discharge.
Mom, she couldn’t take it any more and split when I was graduating from college. She changed back to her maiden name, Sasha Clowncar. It was a confusing time for me. I considered changing my name to be hyphenated, so I’d be Lance Boil-Clowncar, but mom didn’t want me to do it. Said it was disrespectful to my father. Their relationship was complicated even after the divorce. I know how it was. My old girlfriend, she still has my cat. I like that cat.
Anyway, I’m Lance Boil. What are you playing?
Bonus question: What’s your favorite room in your current living space?
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go will get some attention (sadly solo I think due to the Community Day hours being reduced), as well Orna, but I finally picked up Ring Fit Adventure to get a better workout (stupid joint problems stopping me from weight lifting!). I’ll also be hitting up Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition specifically for the visual novel part of the game (and to show devs there’s still interest in the series).
My favorite room is probably the family room when the family isn’t home, hah. The chairs and sofa are the most comfortable, it’s got fans, easy access to the kitchen, and dogs love it. Great room!
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Probably some City of Heroes; maybe some Guild Wars 2. I dunno. I’ve been kind of ambivalent about MMOs this week as the weather’s warming up. It’s going to be a pretty weekend, so I might just go outside.
I love our study, which is really where our living room would be for a typical household (the living room took over the dining room). We set up our rooms based on the life and house we have rather than the ones we wish we had, so we made sure the room where all the work and fun gets done isn’t an afterthought!
Carlo Lacsina (@UltraMudkipEX, YouTube, Twitch): I’ve been playing Black Desert Mobile. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve last played, so there’s a lot of upkeep stuff I’ve been doing. But I think over the weekend I can do some legit grinding.
Bonus question: It depends on the time. If it’s late on a Friday or Saturday night after my family is asleep, it’s the office. Its my sanctuary and man cave. During the day, it’s my upstairs loft, it’s got everything that the living room has, but its more baby proof and its a great space to hang out with my daughter.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): So I installed a VR title called Puzzling Places which is, in summary, like playing with Puzz3D in virtual reality (y’all remember those?) and I am absolutely obsessed with the game. I may also get a bit of Star Trek Online in, but it’s probably going to be puzzles all weekend.
The kitchen is my favorite space in our apartment. It’s where all the food happens.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Game to review and a couple last-minute things before Final Fantasy XIV’s next patch arrives. You know how it is.
My favorite room is easily my bedroom. I have an amazing bed. Second place is our den downstairs, we have the best futon in there, it’s great for lying down with cats. Which I have! So I win!
Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I recently dusted off my Lord of the Rings Online Lore-master on the Treebeard server and am working on leveling her up through Eriador. Nothing like adventuring with a gawky piece of mobile swamp fighting at your side! I would also like to make some good progress in The Elder Scrolls Online’s Blackwood.
Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): This weekend will mainly spent preparing for travel next weekend, but I do want to hop into Black Desert Online to check out what’s new.
We have a family room in the basement that is pretty nifty. All the fun stuff is down there.
Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I’ve had a real busy month so all my gaming time has been sliced and diced. Everytime I think I’ll be playing more Guild Wars 2 something comes up and slaps that idea down. Well this weekend I really think I’m going to have some game time. I also didn’t make it into Mortal Online 2 last week. So they’re is a chance, although slim, I’ll sneak it in. Or maybe I’ll try New World again because Tyler is pretty persuasive.
Bonus: Before last weekend I would’ve said my office/game room. However last week I installed some surround sound speakers in my living room. And it is banging! So that is currently my favorite.
Pierre, patron: I’m often thinking about going back to Lost Ark, but the motivation is not high enough for me and the game is still on the backburner. As no other MMO is tempting me, I will focus on solo gaming for the weekend: Final Fantasy XIII and Until Dawn, just the same program as last week.
Bonus question: it’s probably my living room where I relax, watch VOD streaming services and play games, both PC and console, on a comfortably large 55″ TV screen. And you MOP readers, what MMOs and solo games are you playing this weekend? I’m always curious to know.
