The Daily Grind: What should Funcom do with Secret World?

I realize that in this article I raise the prospect of someone liking the combat in any version of The Secret World, which is really quite funny.

There’s nothing that makes my eye twitch faster than when someone brings up a beloved MMORPG that was either cancelled, abandoned, or neglected. So it is whenever someone mentions The Secret World. There’s never been an MMO with such amazing world building and interesting quests, yet Funcom outright walked away not just once, but twice from the title.

And for the story buffs out there, it’s been agonizing because we all got left in the lurch in the middle of an epic world-spanning saga.

As Secret World Legends hangs on in maintenance mode with the occasional holiday event, the question lingers: What should the studio do with this game? Is “mere existence” the best that we can hope to see here? Is it time to call it quits? Or should Funcom re-invest in this MMO and start developing for it once more?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
