The Daily Grind: How easy do you find long-term farming projects in MMOs?

Sunset on original ideas.

I’ve never had a problem with long projects that have clear goals. Tell me that you need to get 200 Magic Iron Bars to acquire a nice sword when I can get four bars a day, and I’ll set my date in the calendar and plan my actions around it. Tell me that I have a chance to get a nice sword once per day, and even if the odds are in my favor that it’ll come along sooner than 50 days, I’ll get annoyed because that’s how chance works. I would much rather have it as a project I can plan out.

That being said, I am not everyone, and some people would much rather spend 50 days hoping for a drop than 50 days farming a little bit toward a goal consistently. So how easy do you find long-term farming projects in MMOs? Do you enjoy having a reliable result even if you know it’s going to take a while? Do you dislike having what amounts to a shopping list? Or do you think it mostly depends on factors beyond the farming approach?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
