Is an overlay map critical to your experience in OARPGs? Blizzard apparently doesn’t think so, as it’s not planning on implementing one in Diablo IV in spite of the fact that it’s a pretty time-honored tradition in action RPGs and roguelike games that are about map-crawling and loot-collecting.
The news was confirmed by Blizzard’s Rod Fergusson, who tweeted the company has “no plans at the moment” to add an overlay map.
I have opinions, and my opinion is I wasn’t buying Diablo IV anyway, but if I were, I would really, really want the overlay map. It is standard in ARPGs for a very good reasons (and frankly, I like them as an option in MMOs too, even better than minimaps, although gimmie all the maps).
Let’s take it to the polls. Is an overlay map essential in OARPGs?
