The Daily Grind: Do you take a break from an MMO before an expansion?

It ain't 2001 any more.

There is always a period for any MMO between an upcoming expansion (or major update, in some cases) and the last major update where things get… slow. There might still be updates happening gradually, but in large part the game has entered a period wherein you know that you can kind of stop and relax without missing anything major. So the question thus becomes when you’re willing to say that you’ve gotten enough done before the expansion arrives and can just sort of step out.

So when do you take a break before an MMO’s expansion? Is it pretty early on, before things get monotonous? Do you gradually taper off over the weeks and months before the expansion comes back and gets you jazzed to play relentlessly? Do you come and go and make a checklist? Do you just sort of let yourself play what you’re feeling at any given moment and not give a whole lot of thought to what you’re achieving or not?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
