I think I can count on half a hand the number of online games that even do the barest whisper of an event for Ramadan, but given the rise of Lunar New Year events over the last 10 years, I suspect Fortnite won’t be alone for very long in its efforts to truly embrace major holidays around the world.
Fortnite’s nod to Ramadan is called Lantern Fest, and the 2024 edition is live this week. Not only does it come with buyable MENA-coded skins, but it also includes a gorgeous oasis-themed island with stuff to do.
“The lanterns never faded! Celebrate the return of Lantern Fest with the Lantern Fest Oasis island and Outfits whose inner flames will never go out. Lantern Fest 2024 runs from March 10 at 12 PM ET to April 10, 2024, at 12 PM ET — it’s time to share the light and keep the lanterns glowing. Lantern Fest 2024 returns with a completely new island by Illusion Creative: Lantern Fest Oasis! Various challenges such as the Arena, Setting the Dining Table, Find the Falcon, Kashta Parkour, and more await. These challenges will be unlocked one-by-one over the course of Lantern Fest. Ready to eat? Setting the Dining Table will reward you with XP!”
April 10th this year, of course, is the start of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan observance, so that date wasn’t picked from a hat!
Lantern Fest returns to brighten your days 🌟
Riddles, rewards, and a Lantern Oasis!
