There’s a quick and efficient mental calculation that happens anytime I’m in an MMO and I’m presented with an attractive goal to pursue (usually with desirable rewards). I’ll set aside the “want” part of my brain and coldly evaluate what’s required to get there. If it’s feasible and won’t make me tear my hair out, I go for it. But if it’s ridiculously grindy, insanely tough, or simply impossible for me to do, I banish it from my thoughts.
Sometimes games ask way too much of us, and sometimes the proper response is extreme rejection.
