The Daily Grind: What inspired your longest-played MMO character?

Marching off to nowhere.

Something inspired your MMO characters. You might be quick to argue that you don’t roleplay, and that may be true, but it does not change my statement. Even if you have never spent even five seconds thinking about your character’s internal life, you absolutely had something that led you to make this character instead of any other character, even if it was nothing more complex than “the lady with the big sword on the box looked cool so I wanted to make that.” Thought went into it.

Well, I suppose you could have just hit “random” at every point until you got into the game, but that’s inspiration, too. Albeit probably less divine and more ventral.

The point is that whatever character you have played the longest had some kind of inspiration going on. Today, I’m curious about that. What inspired your longest-played MMO character? Was it a roleplaying idea? A character creation option you liked? Your own seething height envy? Having seen a movie a couple days beforehand? The bag of Doritos on your desk? Let us know!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
