The Daily Grind: What conventional MMO wisdom provokes a contrary response in you?

Back in May, I did a smol piece on Echoes of Elysium that talked about the game’s philosophy: “No more punching trees and building shacks.” And you know what? Some folks on social media took that as a challenge. Turns out, kind of a lot of players still like punching trees and building shacks, and honestly… me too.

But then, I am pretty contrary about some things in MMOs. Tell me nobody wants to be Uncle Owen and I literally went out and set up a character as a permanent moisture farmer and played her for years. Don’t tell me what I like, darnit!

What conventional MMO or multiplayer gaming wisdom provokes a contrary response in you?
