Project Gorgon buffs Necromancers, preps mount cosmetics, and fixes AOE issues

Indie MMORPG Project Gorgon dropped a fresh content-and-QOL patch this week in what devs characterized as a “nice well-rounded update” with a little bit of everything.

For starters, Elder Game has tweaked the way area-of-effect attacks work against mobs. The devs explain that because AOE against mobs saw a reduction in direct damage but not indirect damage, clever players were running builds focused on indirect damage as their I-win button. The devs compensated by buffing monsters, but it hasn’t been ideal.

“In this update we’re experimenting with other approaches to this balancing problem. We’ve solved the technical issue that prevented indirect damage from being reduced in burst attacks. Burst attacks now deal reduced damage when they hit more than 3 targets, similar to direct damage, although the dropoff is slower and less dramatic than the dropoff for direct damage. (Indirect damage falls to a minimum of 50% damage when hitting 9 or more targets, while direct damage falls to 25% damage when hitting 9 or more targets).”

The patch also includes tweaks to burst damage attack radius and damage reflection on mobs, plus the studio has laid the foundation for mount cosmetics with a new cosmetic slot for reins and garlands. And if you play a Necromancer, you’re getting quite a nice range of buffs for minions.
