It may seem like a strangely late addition to a game whose franchise often featured a pet German Shepherd called “Dogmeat,” but Fallout 76 is finally getting cats and dogs for player CAMPs.

The news comes from this week’s XBox Tokyo Game Show, during which Bethesda talked up the online RPG. The studio said that more details about this feature is on the way, with cats and dogs arriving by the end of 2024. It should be noted that it sounds as though these companions will be homebodies and not accompany the player on his or her journey, but we’ll have to wait to get clarification about that.

“We’d like to confirm some exciting news,” said Creative Director Jon Rush during the main broadcast. “Cat and dog people rejoice! We’re excited to tell you that camp pets are finally coming to Fallout 76 at the end of this year. These new furry friends will reside in your camps and can be interacted with in a number of ways.”
