The dev blog sneak peeks are continuing to spill forth from Siege Camp’s upcoming medieval war MMO Anvil Empires: This month, it’s all about the underworld cave network, mining, and stability. As in a character’s assured footing, not gameplay or server performance, though ideally that’s being handled too.
The post opens with an expansion of the underworld feature that highlighted a previous post, which will expand this layer of the game world from small caves to a wider, interconnected network of procedurally generated tunnels. Siege Camp points out that this first pass of the system might feel same-y initially, but will develop more character as the feature is built out.
Of course entering these caves and tunnels has to be for a good reason, and that reason is mining: This activity is being overhauled to take advantage of the underworld, making it a more collaborative affair as players will have to move minerals and build platforms to reach elevated veins of iron and coal.
Next up is the aforementioned stability mechanic being introduced to combat, which governs how much impact a character can take before getting knocked down and dazed for “several moments.” This system will take things into consideration like moving downhill, being hit from a mounted foe, and weapon type when determining how much stability damage is taken, while players can also push enemies to reduce stability or be pushed by friends to improve stability.
Finally, the post closes with another look at keep and fort visuals as the devs continue their work with polishing these structures from a graphical standpoint. It’s all waiting your hungry eyes in the Steam blog post.
