Old School RuneScape reduces downtime and improves its winter boss fight

The great GM knows that all of us have gone through an endless parade of boss fights in MMOs. But most of those encounters involve punching and blasting an oversized critter in the face — most, but not all, as Old School RuneScape’s Wintertodt boss fight demonstrates as players use skills to light fires to win.

It’s this fight that’s getting a lot of love with OSRS’s October 9th update. The Wintertodt arena received improvements with a warmth meter, herb-gathering roots, more articles of clothing that count for warmth, and better ways to warm up. If you don’t stay warm, well, then you’re a dead icicle.

The update also continued to tweak drop rates for Varlamore, rebalanced mixology, adjusted the Colossal Wyrm course, and reduced downtime: “You may have noticed that we’ve been doing a lot of maintenance recently. While we still have more work to do, thanks to our continued efforts in improving our infrastructure, starting this week and going forward, there will be NO downtime during game updates except for major content launches!”
