Here we are at the last What Are You Playing of the year, and as is tradition, I am going to take this opportunity to apologize for some things. Not all of them, because a lot of them I frankly don’t feel remotely bad about even though I know I’m supposed to. If you feel upset about them, that’s on you and I still don’t feel bad. So the following list is the things I am actually sorry about:
- Sorry I didn’t write more about quokkas. In my defense, I have always just assumed that quokkas will be there when I’m ready for them; I did not expect them to be wiped out in a freak accident. (Note: I have not actually checked if this happens. Please do not correct me if quokkas are, in fact, fine.)
- Sorry you were all a bunch of big babies about the funniest WRUP I ever wrote. It was the one back in July that has subsequently been deleted but it was really the funniest thing ever, except apparently one of you jerks said that it was “weirdly threatening” and “made you feel weird” so now no one gets to enjoy it ever again. Sorry you can’t handle real comedy and also dissection photos of [REMAINDER REDACTED]
- Sorry that I am currently crashing your car. I’d like to claim it is an accident but I have been smashing your car into a wall, then backing up and doing it again for about half an hour now. The first time could have been an accident. It is increasingly appearing deliberate.
- Sorry to the seven families I gave mayonnaise poisoning. Did you know that consuming too much mayonnaise actually can poison a human being? I certainly didn’t! That sounds fake, I know, but I really wasn’t aware of this until it happened, and I actually feel bad.
Bonus question: What piece of furniture in your home has lasted the longest?
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Exercise games are gonna hopefully get me moving, though I’m hoping to get some Splatoon time in too.
We have wood carved rocking chair inherited from a great-great-something or other in the 1800s. It’s in great shape too!
Andy McAdams: More World of Warcraft: The War Within. I’ve been really enjoying the delves and I’m all caught up on the story. It’s been a surprisingly delightful experience.
Bonus Question: I think we have a bed frame from Ikea from like … 2009? Something like that.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna.bsky.social, blog): Not sure I’ll be playing much this weekend – will have a guest in town, so that makes gaming a little on the rude side. Maybe after! I’ve been playing Star Wars Galaxies Legends and some smaller games lately – stuff I can do from my laptop.
I think the oldest piece we have is a dresser that was my mom’s when she was a little girl. That’s sort of cheating. The oldest one we have that we actually bought is an oversized chair that is not a loveseat but is still so big you can fit two reasonably sized people in it. Got that for our first apartment a million years and half as many states ago.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes.bsky.social, blog): Palworld continues to gobble my time up almost exclusively and I ain’t mad about it, but at the same time I am looking to perhaps revisit other MMOs. That’s the intention anyway; it likely won’t pan out though.
We inherited this small three drawer dresser from my mom, which has been used for years to store kitchen gadgets and silverware. It’s a sturdy, solid, tough ol’ chunk of wood that will probably outlive me.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’m still keeping stuff up in Final Fantasy XIV while also playing a lot of Warframe. Really, a lot of Warframe. You probably gathered that last one.
The oldest piece of furniture I have is, ironically, one that I don’t know the full provenance of; it’s an old wide dresser that makes an excellent TV stand, so that’s what it does now, but I bought it off someone who also had bought it off someone a couple decades ago and didn’t know how old it was then. If I had kids I’d want to leave it to them, it rules.
Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m settling into a quiet holiday weekend with some Lord of the Rings Online, WoW Classic, and WoW Full Strength Regular. I’ve thought about going back to Fallout 76 or Palia, but I have to torture myself with some more Pantheon first.
Sam Kash (@samkash@mastodon.social): Sea of Stars is going to be my primary game of choice for at least a month I believe. I thought I’d get more time on playing during this break but that hasn’t really been the case. I have queued up for MultiVersus a few times but the game has been super laggy. It must be my PC but I haven’t changed it in ages so I don’t know.
Bonus: Probably the oldest I have is a set of dining chairs from the parents but the one we’ve gotten as new and kept is a chair from the Earl Spencer. He had a line of furniture and we had a connection. Plus, it’s the most exciting one to bring up!
Tyler Edwards (blog): To my mild embarrassment I’m still playing The First Descendant heavily. The hustle of the holidays coupled with the weeks of sickness have me craving something mindless, and it’s scratching that itch. I also want to get around to checking out Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria soon, having gotten it free from Epic recently.
Bonus question: I have a dresser that’s older than I am. I think it originally belonged to my grandfather?
