Character design is important in any video game where you want players to remember the characters, so basically all of them. This is not a controversial statement. You kind of want people to associate a cool outfit with a given character, after all. And this leads to an interesting situation whereby developers can excite players with new outfits as parts of collaborations or other events, but sometimes what you really want is to just dress up your character in Game A to look exactly like a character from Game B.
Sometimes this is pretty easy to do because the company making Game A also owns Game B and so there are no rights issues to navigate. Other times it’s much more complicated because not only do two different companies own the games, but the companies in question aren’t friendly with one another especially after a dispute between senior company leadership over a lemon tree planted between their headquarters. (That’s not a real story, but far weirder things have happened.) But today let’s not worry about that. What game has outfits you’d really like to see in your MMORPG of choice? Regardless of how likely it is (probably “not very”) what’s an MMORPG where you’d like to be able to dress up like a character from an entirely different game?
