The difficulty of raids in World of Warcraft does not contribute one whit to my lack of desire to take part in raids in World of Warcraft. It seriously doesn’t. Not wanting to spend the time getting a group together or having a scheduled raid night is what robs me of any and all desire to bother with raiding. But I find that the two things get conflated a lot when designers talk about content and making it accessible; it also extends to things like making open PvP more fair and easier to get into, disregarding that a lot of people don’t want open PvP because they don’t want open PvP.
So today’s question is actually turning that slightly on its head, because I know there is content people find too difficult to get into. I’ve heard from many people that, say, the crafting system in Final Fantasy XIV is too arcane to learn and that’s a barrier to getting into crafting. For some people, I’m sure organized PvP or structured group PvE really is too difficult to do. So is there MMO content you won’t do because it’s too difficult? What would you really get into if it were, in fact, easier to do?
