Yep, another chat platform is seeking to take Discord’s crown, but in the case of Guilded, it’s doing so with what it purports to be a variety of tools specifically for gamers and with the help of a fresh injection of revenue.
Guilded has secured $7 million in Series A funding thanks to Matrix Partners and a number of other venture capital firms. As part of the funding agreement, Matrix Partners general partner Ilya Sukhar will sit on the Board of Directors for Guilded. What this funding ultimately means for the platform is the promise of team expansion, additional features for the program itself, as well as “strategic partnerships” with game publishers and developers and esports orgs.
As for the program itself, Guilded already provides a number of features that might be of interest to gamers, with the ability to create events, group calendars, and docs within the program, along with chat threads and “better” voice and video chat. In June, Guilded will also get a Tournaments feature to organize tournaments within the app. For those who are curious, Guilded is available via web browsers, mobile apps, and as its own Windows 10 app.
