Sir Probably Not Appearing In These Dungeons

Video games as gifts are a tradition that stretches back into the era of the NES, when that was basically how you got new video games and wound up suffering for the year because your aged grandmother didn’t know if you wanted The Legend of Zelda or Crappy 8-Bit Movie Adaptation and wound up getting you the bad one. But MMOs are a little different from most gifts because you’re buying someone a gift that is not just a time commitment but potentially a cost.

Giving someone a copy of World of Warcraft isn’t quite like giving someone a copy of Skyrim, after all. And giving a gift within a game like Lord of the Rings Online runs a similar risk of being gone if the servers go down. So would you give an MMO as a gift to someone? Would you want to first make sure it was something that the recipient wanted or had been curious about? Or would you generally prefer to avoid online games in gifting?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
