Racial equality is still a vital topic and an important fight in a wide variety of sectors, including game dev. It’s why Bungie helped to create the Black at Bungie Inclusion Club, which was elaborated on in a recent dev blog post.
Just what is an Inclusion Club (IC)? They’re internal collections of Bungie employees built to support the goals of underrepresented groups, connect those of similar cultural backgrounds, and connect those who wish to link up as supportive allies. ICs also have access to funds and resources that let employees support the causes that matter to them.
The Black at Bungie IC has been pivotal in informing Bungie’s public statements and actions such as the support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and it has also helped kick off a number of initiatives important to Black game devs and Black voices, including funding a sponsorship of the Game Devs of Color Expo in September and helping to create the Black Lives Matter pin and emblem.
According to the post, the Black at Bungie IC is looking ahead to additional initiatives that seek to “[uplift] underrepresented voices, [share] diverse perspectives and [champion] a more diverse and inclusive game industry.” The IC will also be sharing more about its efforts both on Bungie’s website and on social media channels.
