It’s not a surprise to anyone who reads this that I like Final Fantasy XIV. That having been said, there are also things I really don’t like about it. Case in point, the game’s Materia system is… well, important but boring. Just welding on stat boosts is intensely bland, it offers no real space for customization despite being the most customization you get in your build, and it generally lacks much in the way of substantial impact. It’s not a terrible system, but I personally don’t like it much.
Just because we like our games of choice doesn’t mean that we’re incapable of acknowledging the various ways said games fail to live up to their potential or deliver half-baked systems. So let’s take a moment to talk about that. What’s your least favorite mechanic in an MMO you like? Not something that ruins the game for you, but just something you really don’t like even in the middle of a game you overall enjoy?
