Star Citizen’s $108M (and growing) crowdfunded budget is large enough that it is attracting the attention of many outside the sphere of games journalism. In a new article at the BBC, the mainstream news service is asking the question of whether or not Star Citizen will be able to make good on its promises and satisfy its supporters in the end.
The article, which came about after the BBC visited some of Star Citizen’s studios and talked to Chris Roberts, provides a basic overview of the project and its growing scope to the uninitiated. The piece claims that “the size and complexity of the project is mind-boggling to the outside observer,” with studios across the globe working on the project collectively 24 hours a day on the “massively multiplayer online (MMO) game.”
“With the title running years behind its originally announced schedule, [Roberts] has still to prove he can meet the backers’ expectations,” the BBC says.
