Action RPGs are very frequently about one major thing: blowing up monsters for sweet showers of loot. Pixel Ferrets, the developer of Secrets of Grindea appears to understand this, making its four-player co-op ARPG world all about finding treasures while sprinkling in some old school SNES-style sprite charm into the affair.

“In the world of Grindea everything is determined by one thing – how big your collection of stuff is. Take on the role of a young hero or heroine taking their first steps to become a famed ‘Collector’, helping find the most rare and valuable loot in the kingdom.

“Journey through fantastical lands and battle tons of different enemies and bosses in your quest for truth, friendship and, above all, finding the world’s rarest treasures!”

Grindea offers up over 300 unique goodies for players to find by either farming, solving puzzles, slaying bosses, or completing side quests, along with an overarching narrative behind being a Collector. Characters can be fully customized with a class-less assortment of 31 spells and skills across nine different categories, and they can take on side content like farming, crafting, taming, minigames, or a standalone roguelike arcade mode.

Grindea has been in development since 2011 and in early access for nine years, with Pixel Ferrets chronicling the journey all the way to its full launch earlier this week. Incidentally, the game can be played on PC via Steam, GOG, or Humble, and it appears to have earned itself plenty of effusive reviews on Steam. The whole thing is available for $15 but is currently on a 10% discount until March 7th.
