Cutesy golfing MMO PangYa sunsets in Thailand, marking the official end of the game

Unless you’re an MMO fan of a certain vintage, the name of the game PangYa is probably going to sound odd to you without doing some research. This adorable-looking golf MMO first released in Korea in 2004 by NCsoft, where it spread to other territories such as Japan, North America (where it was called Albatross18), and Thailand about a year later. The game was primarily shuttered worldwide in 2016 and 2017, instead of in Thailand, where Initree Games Company kept it running for 19 years.

Obviously the past tense of that lede and the headline tell the ultimate fate of PangYa TH, as Initree announced the MMO’s closure on April 30th. Google translation from Thairath.com notes that sales of in-game currency was halted on April 29th, while the servers went dark a day later. The rest of the message otherwise appears to relish the memories of the old game and thank fans for all of the support over its nearly two decades of life.

This final official holdout basically means PangYa is terminated, save for the rogue server PangYa Reborn, which still serves a small but dedicated playerbase to this day.
