The Daily Grind: Do you ever feel like you’re outside the wall of an MMO fandom?

It’s a disquieting feeling to be around a bunch of people who are “in the know” on a trend or fandom but you’re not. While they’re gushing about their love of a thing, you’re standing there mentally twiddling your thumbs and feeling left out. You may be mature and encourage their passion or you may be snide and take a few digs at their obsession, but the bottom line is that you are on the outside and don’t get it.

In regards to MMOs, I felt this most keenly when it came to fans of Star Wars Galaxies. If you hear people gush about that game, you’d think it was the be-all, end-all of online gaming. Yet I bounced off any attempts to get into it, banishing me from this particular fandom.

Do you feel on the outs in relation to any MMO and its fandom? Do you just not get the appeal while watching a lot of people who do, happy for them but kind of sad for yourself?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
