Wait, didn’t Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis already celebrate an anniversary? Yes, but that was the third anniversary for NGS specifically; the month of July will be marking the 12th anniversary of PSO2 in general, which is part of the headline attractions shared in Sega’s latest video.
Festivities for the occasion will be marked with new limited-time quests, another new seasonal points shop with fresh cosmetics and nine-star weapons, plenty of login rewards and bonuses, and some summer-themed lockboxes for those who like that sort of thing. Events start as early as July 1st and run through the entirety of the month, while limited-time quests arrive on July 3rd and July 17th.
In addition, July 17th will also begin another anime collab event, this time with The Eminence in Shadow, which brings more lockboxes and login rewards. Following that, July 24th will add a new purple rank to Battledia, which will bring on some harder enemies to tackle and additional rewards to earn.
Finally, July 31st will introduce a new weapons system known as M.A.R.S. that lets players wield massive mecha-like arms on foes. These new weapons require a minimum 25% charge to be built up, but once M.A.R.S. is engaged, it can be used and deactivated at any time to conserve charge. Attacks from these new weapons come in multiple different styles that combine based on main weapon and sub-weapon, and the whole thing even has its own advancement tree.
