You know, I’m simply not a guy who likes to slap titles onto my character’s name in MMOs. Never have been, probably never will be. And yet my favorite game is one that’s chock-full of titles, some of which are so ridiculously long that it can make a player look as though he or she has a paragraph of text floating above.
So I’m going to push past my personal preference and shine a spotlight on titles today. Specifically, the 10 coolest-sounding titles in Lord of the Rings Online that you can get and how to obtain them. And no, “Undying” is not going to be one of them because that’s a bald-faced lie.
“Dances with Tentacles”
I appreciate a very down-low pun or reference, and this one sounds odd enough to draw attention — if that’s your aim with a title (I assume). This one requires beating the Grasping Maw in the Depths of Kidzul-kâlah dungeon without killing the side tentacles.
“Arbitrator of the Dead”
C’mon, this one sounds metal as all get out, doesn’t it? If I introduced myself as, “Justin, Arbitrator of the Dead” to those I met, I’d be widely respected. Or given a wide berth. One of the two. In any case, it’s an easy title to get, requiring just 120 shade/wight kills in Southern Mirkwood.
“The Wired”
Have 100 days to spare? Sure you do! All you need to do to get this deed is drink 10 cups of coffee (mmm!) each day for 100 days, and you’ll be so wired you won’t be able to see straight.
“Seeker of Sorrow”
For this emo-sounding label, head over to Wildermore and make sure to read every grave in Forlaw’s graveyard. Then watch how you’ll become the life of the party!
“Warrior of Bloody Gore”
Now we’re talking! Now we’re putting titles on our characters that will trigger all sorts of concerned interventions! But you don’t care because you’re the WARRIOR OF THE BLOODY GORE RAWWR! Anyway this takes doing 40 quests in Agarnaith. Easy peasy.
“Wrath of Winter”
Head up to Forochel and go on a worm-killing spree to earn one of the coolest (literally!) titles in the game. A hundred dead worms later, and you’ll be making dated Game of Thrones references left and right.
“The Sinister”
I do like titles that mesh well with names, so tacking on “the Sinister” to any character name is going to be pretty awesome. You’ll have to work your way up a moderate amount in the Ale Association during a festival, but it’s not too hard. Plus, they got cool goats!
“Morale-smasher”
Sounding like a WWE figure, “Morale-smasher” is a title with real chest hair on it. It does take a bit of work, as you’ve got to kill a trio of bosses in the Fil Gashan dungeon in Moria.
“Executioner of the Wicked”
I’ve actually gotten this title — once — because it sounded so cool. It is a little bit of a headache, as you’ve got to dive into a bunch of barrows in the Barrow-downs and kill the big bads in each one. I think there’s six in total.
“The Fearsome”
We’ll wrap things up with another terrific surname! If you happen to find yourself in Angmar, well, I’m sorry for you. But you might as well kill 100 Angmarim in Carn Dûm while you’re there and get a title that will make all of the Hobbit lads and lasses swoon at your approach.
What are some of your favorite titles from LOTRO? What are some that you’d love to get and haven’t quite yet?
