NetEase’s advertisements for World of Warcraft’s return to China are animal-filled madness

It would be very simple to believe that World of Warcraft making its return to Chinese players would be a happy enough ending, particularly after Blizzard and NetEase had a messy and public corporate divorce that ended up screwing Chinese fans out of their favorite MMORPG. But there is one very important detail that was almost overlooked: a pair of cat-based advertisements for the region’s version of Wrath Classic.

The ads in question herald the release of China’s Wrath Classic in 2022 and a special flying mount that marks the game’s 20th anniversary this year respectively. Your guess about the context is as good as ours, but the first video has a group of cats lounging around until one of them activates the Helm of Domination and covers the living room in Northrend snow, while the second one involves a cat trying to fly to a high platform to get a snack that was stolen by a possessed cockatiel.

Both of them are absolutely coated in references to the game and really must be seen to be believed. Honestly, watching a cat threaten to summon a dragon skeleton as it walks around to the tune of Arthas, My Son is an experience.
